What is BIAB?
BIAB stands for Builder In A Bottle. It is a builder gel in a bottle that is stronger than regular gel polish. The nail stylist applies it to the natural nail to create a protective structure and a balanced shape.
BIAB originally refers to a particular product name. Not every strengthening treatment therefore uses the same brand or exact material. Feel free to ask which system will be used for your nails.
- ✓Strengthens the natural nail
- ✓Can be finished naturally or with colour
- ✓Suitable for growing your own nails
What is gel polish?
Gel polish is a thin coloured coating cured under an LED or UV lamp. It combines the neat appearance of nail polish with longer wear and lasting shine.
Because gel polish is thinner than builder gel, it offers less reinforcement. It works best on natural nails that are already strong enough when colour and a long-lasting polished result are the priority.
- ✓Thin and natural finish
- ✓Many colours and effects
- ✓Less reinforcement than BIAB or builder gel
What are gel nails?
For gel nails, the nail stylist uses a firm builder gel to create shape and strength. The gel can be applied over the natural nail or used to extend it.
Gel nails offer many options for length, shape and nail art. Regular infills are important because the natural nail keeps growing and the balance of the structure changes over time.
- ✓Suitable for reinforcement and extensions
- ✓Plenty of freedom in shape and nail art
- ✓Professionally infilled or removed
How long do BIAB, gel polish and gel nails last?
On average, gel polish looks good for around two to three weeks. A strengthening treatment or gel nails are usually maintained after three to four weeks. Exact wear time varies from person to person.
Nail growth, work, hobbies, aftercare and the condition of the natural nail all play a role. Do not wait for lifting: timely maintenance helps keep the nails neat and balanced.
How should you care for treated nails?
Use cuticle oil daily, wear gloves when cleaning and do not use your nails as tools. Never pull or pick off lifted product, as this can damage the upper layer of the natural nail.
If you notice pain, redness, itching or unexpected discolouration, have the product assessed and seek medical advice if needed. Nail treatments are cosmetic and do not replace medical care.
